Report: Florida high school football player dies after collapsing on the field

Accordingly a report from Channel 7 WJHG reporter Scott Rossman, Port St. Joe High school football player Chance Gainer died after collapsing on the field during a game against Liberty County on Friday night.

According to Rossman's report, Gulf County Schools Superintendent Jim Norton said Gainer was treated on the field. The 18-year-old had no pulse when paramedics reached him.

The report also stated that they were able to take Gainer's pulse before putting him in an ambulance. He was then taken to a hospital in Blountstown, where Gainer was pronounced dead, the report said.

“One of the finest young men to ever walk the halls of Port St. Joe High School,” Norton said via a report by Sam Granville of Channel 13 ABC.

According to the WJHG report, Norton says he is already in the process of organizing grief counselors to come to the school and help all of the Port St. Joe High School football players, students, teachers and staff cope with the tragic situation.

According to the WJHG report, Port St. Joe's game against Blountstown next Friday has already been postponed.
