Jennifer Lopez revives her “Revenge” outfit for “Unstoppable” at TIFF

Jennifer Lopez revived the “revenge dress” for the premiere of “Unstoppable” on Friday at the Toronto International Film Festival.

She made a stunning red carpet appearance in a shimmering Tamara Ralph gown from the brand's fall 2024 couture collection and the third season of her eponymous label. WWD's Alex Wynne described the couture line as a love affair with Paris in a review. “Tamara Ralph was in a romantic mood,” Wynne wrote. “After two collections built around armor-like structures that represent female strength – and almost as if she wanted to prove her own resilience in her return to Paris – her fall collection was an ode to the city and the love affairs that begin here.”

The embellished silhouette with double side slits was decorated with an all-over mirror effect and featured skin-baring cutouts from the neckline to the train. The vertical structure of the dress was maintained by voluminous black bows – although there were few of them, they provided a romantic and flirtatious contrast.

But that's not all. The actress wore mirrored sandals by Dolce & Gabbana, jewelry by Hassanzadeh and a bag by Judith Leiber.

The biographical sports drama on Prime Video is inspired by the triumph of college wrestling champion Anthony Robles, who was born with one leg. Her “Unstoppable” co-stars Jharrel Jerome, Bobby Cannavale, Don Cheadle and producer Matt Damon were also on the red carpet, although one of Damon's co-producers, Ben Affleck, was not.

The premiere was Lopez's first major public appearance since filing for divorce from Affleck in August after two years of marriage.

The film is called Unstoppable, after all, so why shouldn't the dress match? The empowering fashion message comes on the 30th anniversary of Princess Diana's “revenge dress” – when she appeared in iconoclastic style at London's Serpentine Gallery in 1994, the same night Prince Charles revealed in an ITV documentary that he was having an affair. The confession made headlines, as did her little black dress by Christina Stambolian, which earned her the nickname. The couple divorced two years later.
