Due to the Ironman Triathlon, there will be road closures in Madison on Sunday

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Madison city officials are reminding residents that several downtown streets will be closed due to the Ironman Triathlon on Sunday.

Participants will run, swim and bike from about 6:45 a.m. Sunday until about midnight. The city of Madison reports that police will only clear local access along the course if there are gaps between runners and cyclists.

The swimming portion takes place in Lake Monona.

The following roads will be closed for the triathlon:

  • Closed bicycle sections: The closures will last from approximately 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
    • Right lane of John Nolen Drive northbound from E. Lakeside St to Monona Terrace
    • East Lakeside Street east of John Nolen Drive
    • Olin-Turville Court
    • East Rusk Avenue from the entrance to the Alliant Energy Center to Rimrock Road
    • Rimrock Road ramps to/from Beltline Highway
  • Ongoing partial closures: These road closures will last from approximately 11 a.m. to midnight. The city has provided a map showing the closed roads:
