1 dead after early morning shooting in Sunrise

Sunrise, Florida. – Homicide detectives were investigating a fatal shooting in Sunrise early Saturday morning. The crime scene was near restaurants, bars and nightclubs. Long blue plastic sheets cordoned off a small area in a parking lot.

The cordoned off area was near a white fence across from a golf course, a blue sign reading “3801-3701” and a path leading to the main entrance of Hooters on North University Drive at Northwest 39th Street.

According to Sunrise police, a man had suffered a gunshot wound and died. Officers arrived at around 2:30 a.m.

The caution tape stretched from the Hooters Market, which closed late Friday night, to the Springtree Country Club Plaza, 3801 North University Drive, which is also home to Goldfinger, a nightclub featuring exotic dancers that normally closes at 4 a.m.

Across the street and outside the crime scene tape was La Perrada Company, a Colombian fast-food restaurant that's open until midnight. The restaurant's neighbor is The Velvet Lounge & Cafe, or VL, a nightclub that typically closes at 3 a.m.

Sunrise detectives were looking for witnesses and asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 to remain anonymous.
