In 2010, Lovato filmed “Princess Protection Program” with Selena Gomez before filming “Camp Rock 2.” Things began to fall apart on the “Camp Rock 2” tour. Lovato was 17 at the time and was drinking alcohol and using drugs, particularly Adderall, according to her YouTube documentary “Simply Complicated.” Lovato hit a backup dancer who exposed the actress' drug use, after which she checked herself into rehab.

“I think I had crossed the line of what I could endure emotionally and physically,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “And I didn't realize that being a child star could be traumatic. And it's not traumatic for everyone, but it was for me.”
