New poll shows how Michigan voters feel about the Senate race

A new WDIV/Detroit News poll asked voters to share their opinions on the U.S. Senate race in the state.

The WDIV/Detroit News poll was conducted between August 26 and 29, 2024.

Here are some of the key takeaways from the US Senate race in Michigan:

  • Elissa Slotkin leads Mike Rogers by 8.5%, 43.5% to 35.0%.

Among the “decided voters,” Slotkin extends her lead to 45.2% to 35.2% – a lead of ten percentage points. 13.6% of the decided voters are undecided.

The “likely voters” tend to favor Rogers (32.7%) and Slotkin (25.0%). 30.8% of likely voters are undecided.

Among independent voters, Slotkin is ahead by six percentage points – but 38.0% of independent voters are still undecided.

  • Slotkin wins 90% of Kamala Harris voters. Rogers, on the other hand, wins only 72% of Trump voters, giving him considerable growth potential.

  • Slotkin has a 23.2 percentage point lead among college voters. Among non-college voters, Rogers is virtually tied at 39.8% with Slotkin at 37.8% – a difference of two percentage points.

  • Among women, Slotkin is ahead by 20.7 percentage points, with 18.8% of women still undecided. Among men, Rogers is ahead by 4.4 percentage points, with 11.2% still undecided.

  • Slotkin has a 2-1 lead in Metro Detroit, giving him a 28.1 percentage point advantage. Rogers has a 10.3 percentage point lead in Michigan, with 18.4% of voters from other states still undecided.

Harris and Slotkin both receive 43.5% of the vote. The difference is that Trump receives 44.7% and Rogers only receives 35.0% – a difference of 9.7%.


Survey methodology

The Glengariff Group, Inc. conducted a statewide survey in Michigan of likely voters who will participate in the November 2024 general election. The 600-sample telephone survey was conducted August 26-29, 2024, and has a margin of error of +/-4.0% at a 95% confidence level. 16.6% of respondents were contacted via landline telephones. 83.4% of respondents were contacted via cell phones. This survey was commissioned by WDIV Local 4 News and the Detroit News.
