Live updates: Tigers trail at halftime in Jordan-Hare game

AUBURN – The Auburn football team lost the ball five times on Saturday and lost 21-14 to Cal at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Payton Thorne threw for one touchdown and ran for another, but threw four interceptions as Auburn (1-1) struggled to move the ball consistently. Cal (2-0) featured a strong game from quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who threw for 233 yards and two touchdowns before leaving the field late in the fourth quarter with a lower leg injury.

Next up, Auburn hosts New Mexico. Cal hosts San Diego State.

The Tigers won their opening game 73-3 against Alabama A&M as the offense scored on four of its first five drives. Cal, now in the ACC, had earlier won 31-13 against UC Davis.
