Jets have to do without Haason Reddick for the start as contract negotiations continue

It looks like Haason Reddick's strike will continue into the regular season.

Despite a report from former Browns general manager Mike Lombardi on Friday night that Reddick planned to appear on Saturday, that was not the case, according to coach Robert Saleh.

“I maintain that we're going to welcome him with open arms when he gets here,” Saleh said before the Jets' final practice before their Monday night showdown with the 49ers. “We're going to love him and he's going to be a part of this football team and help us win a lot of football games. He's got to handle the financial stuff, which is none of my business.”

Reddick, who was signed by the Eagles in late March, did not participate in spring training or training camp and accumulated fines of $50,000 or more per day for the three preseason games he missed.

Every game Reddick misses would cost him around $800,000.

Reddick is unhappy with his contract, which pays him a base salary of $14.25 million, but the Jets are refusing to discuss any adjustments to his new contract until he shows up at their training facility.

Reddick, a two-time Pro Bowler, turned down a contract extension offer from the Jets before the trade was finalized, but the Jets still expected him to honor his existing contract.

General Manager Joe Douglas recently said he has not spoken directly with Reddick since his visit to the Jets' building on April 1, nor has he spoken to his agent Tony Dandy recently.

Reddick, who averaged just over 12.6 sacks over the past four years, asked for a trade in early August, but Douglas said the Jets had no plans to trade him.

Offensive lineman Wes Schweitzer (hand) and linebacker Zaire Barnes (ankle) will both miss Monday night's game.

Schweitzer, the team's reserve offensive player, will be placed on the injured list, Saleh said.

He will miss at least the next four games. Saleh declined to say which offensive lineman would replace Schweitzer, as the Jets have options.
