Gordon Ramsay reveals all about his “brutal” bicycle accident

Gordon Ramsay isn't known for showing his vulnerable side, but his recent bike accident was enough to scare even him.

If you follow Ramsay on social media, you've heard about the crash and no doubt seen the video of him showing off his war injuries. What you may not know is how Ramsay ended up in this condition.

I couldn't even put on my damn socks and pants

Now in an exclusive interview with Men's Health UKThe celebrity chef revealed exactly what happened that day and what led him to say he was “lucky to be here.”

“My life was passing me by,” says Ramsay.[I was] I was riding down the hill pretty fast, no other cars involved. The front wheel hit a pothole and the whole bike just catapulted me through. I was struggling to breathe. I thought I was going to pass out. Unfortunately the bike was wrecked and I put the chain back on. Then, like an idiot with adrenaline, I started fucking riding again.

“I bent down, started to tighten my helmet, and the whole thing was split. Then I tried to look, but all I could see was blurry vision and blood everywhere,” he adds. “I really thought I was going to pass out.”

After the accident, Ramsay was taken to hospital where he underwent a CT scan. Thankfully, he was normal, but his ordeal was not over yet.

“I couldn't even put on my damn socks and pants,” says Ramsay. “Justin [Mandel, Ramsay’s assistant] He always dressed me in the morning. I felt like a 95-year-old fucking man. Asking a 30-year-old boy to put my fucking underwear on me was embarrassing.'

Ramsay is on the road to recovery and back to training – swimming and yes, cycling. A veteran of multiple marathons, ultramarathons and half-Ironmans, he attributes his recovery to his dedication to fitness and his tough Scottish bones.

“If I wasn't fit and these bones weren't strong, I'd be lost,” says Ramsay. “I'll put it back down to fitness… I'm lucky to be here because I'm fit.”
