The 23-year-old para-athlete from Haryana, who finished fourth at the Tokyo Games three years ago, began the competition with a foul but threw 46.39m on his second attempt to catapulted himself into second place. But it was his third throw that electrified the stadium.

With a monstrous throw of 47.32 metres, Navdeep broke the Paralympic record and quickly took the lead, but Sadegh beat the Indian's mark and secured the gold medal with a record-breaking performance of 47.64 metres in his fifth attempt.

However, the Iranian was disqualified some time after the end of the final, so the Indian athlete took first place.

The F41 category is for athletes who are of small stature.
