The perfect couplewhich premiered on Thursday, September 5, was about a wedding weekend that is thrown into disarray by the discovery of a body on the beach. The series premiere revealed that the bride (Eve Hewson) Maid of Honor, Merritt (Meghann Fahy), was the person who was killed, but it wasn't until the finale that fans found out who was actually responsible.

Thomas' (Jack Reynolds) Woman found out that his father, day (Liev Schreiber), impregnated Merritt, putting the Winbury Trust in jeopardy. Abby took matters into her own hands by spiking Merritt's drink and drowning her.

The perfect couple also provided a resolution to most of the storylines introduced in the six-episode limited series. In a flash forward, viewers saw Amelia (Hewson) reunite with Greer (Nicole Kidman) after deciding not to marry Benni (Billy Howley).

Greer Winbury

Throughout the series, Greer tried to maintain the facade of a perfect marriage in order to sell more books. Greer even kept it a secret from the public that she was the one funding the Winburys' lifestyle, as her husband Tag had no money despite having a family trust.

Greer also received calls from someone named Broderick, leading police to believe she had hired a hitman to kill Merritt because of an affair with Tag. It was only when she was charged with murder that Greer admitted that Broderick was her secret brother, blackmailing her for money to pay off a gambling debt.

The matriarch of the Winbury family eventually confessed that her love story with Tag was not what it seemed. They actually met when Broderick helped her find clients as an escort. Tag paid for Greer's services several times before they married – and buried the truth about their past.

At the end of the series, Greer eventually left Tag after ignoring his many past indiscretions. Greer used her life as inspiration for what would likely be another best-seller, and six months later, she found Amelia in London. Amelia got a copy of Greer's book – which seemed to be based on their shared experiences – and that opened the door for them to stay in touch in the future.

Tag Winbury

It was obvious from the beginning that Tag was hiding pretty much everything. The perfect couple confirmed that some of Tag's unspoken mistakes included affairs with people close to her family – including a former nanny. However, his relationship with Merritt went too far. Tag refused to leave Greer for Merritt, leaving her in the same spot where Abby subsequently drowned her.

Tag denied having anything to do with Merritt until he had no choice but to confess. He also aired his family's private affairs at a book event, which worsened his public image. By the end of the show, Tag had come to terms with the loss of Greer and planned to stay at her house on the island.

Amelia Sacks

Marrying into the Winbury family wasn't Amelia's only concern on her wedding weekend. Amelia was already doubting whether Benji was the one, and the delay allowed her to finally accept that. First, however, Amelia found out about Merritt's affair with Tag, which led to a falling out between the best friends.

Feeling guilty about her last conversation with Merritt, Amelia tried to solve her murder to come to terms with it. Eventually, she found out that one of her mother's pills had gone missing and was discovered in Merritt's system. When authorities connected the dots, they discovered that Abby had gotten it from Thomas and Amelia was there when Merritt's killer was arrested.

In her personal life, Amelia was torn throughout the season between her feelings for Benji's best man Shooter (Ishaan Khattar). Amelia and Shooter had a past that no one knew about, which caused the bride to briefly give in to those feelings. Benji saw the couple kiss, and by the end of their time on Nantucket, the wedding was called off.

Amelia and Benji parted on good terms, while The perfect couple hinted at a possible reconciliation between her and Shooter in the future. Six months later, she was seen working at a zoo in London, where Amelia and Greer met again.

Benji Winbury

The middle child of the Winbury family was blind to what was going on around him for most of the season. While Benji knew about Tag's affair with Merritt, he didn't know about Amelia's doubts about their future. Benji wasn't thrilled to find Amelia and Shooter together, but he came to terms with the fact that his relationship wasn't working.

In the series finale, Benji broke up with Amelia before returning to his chaotic family.

Merritt Monaco

The story behind Merritt's murder was told mostly in flashbacks. Although Merritt had a certain charisma, she wasn't as big of a party animal as she wanted others to believe. That's why Merritt's affair with Tag was so out of character for her. She thought there was a future for them, but when she realized there wasn't, Merritt wanted to keep the baby anyway. That decision made her a target.

On the night of her death, Tag made it clear to Merritt that he wanted her to abort her unborn child. She confided in Amelia, who was not happy about the situation. Merritt then had a conversation with Thomas' lover Isabel (Isabelle Adjani) about her predicament, but it was her conversation with Abby that ultimately turned things around.

Abby laced a drink she gave Merritt with a barbiturate before drowning her.

Abby Winbury

Despite seemingly being unaware of what was going on around her, pregnant Abby knew that Thomas was having an affair with Isabel. She also knew that Merritt was pregnant with Tag's baby, which meant that Thomas would have to wait another 18 years before he could access the money in his family's trust fund.

Abby took a pill she found in Thomas's hideout to drug Merritt. She then killed Merritt before asking the family's housekeeper to dispose of the evidence. After police connected the dots, Abby was arrested for murder.

Thomas Winbury

Not only was Thomas unfaithful to his wife, but he was also in debt. He owed his girlfriend millions and was counting on Tag's trust. When Merritt's pregnancy threatened this, Thomas tried to shoot her but ultimately didn't. Isabel stopped him and they went to a hotel, where Abby took the opportunity to finish the job by killing Merritt.

Thomas seemed unaware that he was giving his wife the means to commit a crime when he stole a pill from Amelia's mother. The series ended with Isabel confronting Thomas at his family home for accusing her of murder.

Will Winbury

As the youngest in the family, Will was unaware of most of the secrets his parents tried to bury. Through the murder investigation, he found out that Tag was responsible for his nanny disappearing from his life. Will also knew that Merritt was pregnant with Tag's baby before her death and offered to help.

Merritt had Will's support, but he had nothing to do with her death. He ended the series on a positive note by spending time with Police Chief Dan Carter's (Michael Beach) daughter, Chloe (Mia Isaac).

Shooter Dival

The only reason Shooter seemed guilty was because of a wire transfer he made to Greer. Shooter even tried to leave the island to avoid answering questions, but he couldn't escape the truth. It turns out that Shooter had no idea at the time what he was giving Greer money for. Greer explained to authorities that she had to pay off a loan for her brother.

Shooter still seemed out of sorts at the end of the series. He was no longer an interesting person, which meant he could go home. Before that, Shooter had a conversation with Amelia about their complicated relationship. Amelia made it clear that she needed to work on herself first – but the open ending allowed for a possible reconciliation between the two in the future.
