de Rozario finished 4:23 behind the champion Catherine Debrunner.

The Sydney rider was part of a three-person chasing group for most of the race, but two kilometers from the finish, de Rozario and Scaroni pulled away from the Chinese rider. Zhou Zhaoqian.

And de Rozario stepped up a gear on the home straight and confidently took the silver medal, with Scaroni another 16 seconds behind him.

There is lively conversation between the three medal winners and many smiling faces, which is great to see.

It is an enormous achievement for de Rozario to finish on the podium again in the marathon.

Debrunner was just too good and it is still hard to believe that in Paris she won five gold medals and one silver in every discipline from the 100 metres to the marathon!

Para-athletics: de Rozario in silver medal position

Madison de Rosario is now in second place with Susannah Scaroni six seconds behind her.

At kilometer 40 they were just over four minutes behind Debrunnerso we should see them racing towards the finish line soon.

The leaders in the women’s marathon T54 have covered 30 km, and yes, it is a broken record at this point, but Catherine Debrunner remains in the gold medal position.

Australia's co-flag bearer Madison de Rosario is determined to defend her Paralympic marathon title. It's still early, but when can we expect a final result?

The world record in the T53/54 category in this discipline is held by the current leader Catherine Debrunner1:34:16.

So we can expect it to end shortly before 6pm AEST.
