Ahead of Apple's big launch, the first Indian ad for Apple goes viral

A 1996 Apple Macintosh advertisement featuring Bollywood actor Samir Soni has resurfaced on the Internet.

As Apple prepares to launch its much-anticipated iPhone 16 series tomorrow, September 9, a rare blast from the past has taken the internet by storm. A 1996 Apple Macintosh advertisement featuring Bollywood actor Samir Soni has resurfaced online, grabbing the attention of tech enthusiasts and nostalgic fans alike.

Set in a typical office environment, the advert features Mr. Soni as an employee who is approached by a high-ranking official and asks for a PC to run his Windows disk. Mr. Soni's character confidently hands over his Apple Macintosh, inserts the disk without any problems and demonstrates its compatibility with Windows software. The official is visibly impressed and is forced to rethink his preconceptions about the Mac. The advert ends with the slogan “Does more, costs less, it's that simple”, a bold statement from Apple in the 1990s.

The video was shared on Instagram by the account TV1 INDIA and has over 1 million views. Many users shared fond memories of the tech era, while others were surprised by Apple's once-touted affordability.

One user commented: “They gave up on the expense deduction part after Steve Jobs died.”

“Does more cost less? That would be a joke these days,” someone said.

Another wrote: “Kids today wonder why that guy carries a memory symbol in his pocket?”

“When I look at this ad, I realize that technology has really come a long way,” said one commenter.

Meanwhile, Apple will unveil its latest flagship devices, the iPhone 16 series, at the upcoming “It's Glowtime” event on September 9. The new lineup will consist of four models: the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, each with its own unique design and features. Each model will feature different screen sizes to suit different user preferences, as well as upgraded cameras and a unified A18 chip. With advanced AI features, improved battery life, and new buttons for enhanced functionality, the iPhone 16 series is poised to revolutionize the smartphone experience.
