Invest 91L has high development opportunities in the Gulf of Mexico

Currently, there is a high probability of the development of a low pressure area (Invest 91L) that has formed over the Bay of Campeche.

Most of our weather models show the disturbance developing into a tropical depression or tropical storm as it moves north. This would likely occur early to mid-next week. The western coast of the Gulf of Mexico should closely monitor the path of this disturbance.

Early model charts indicate that eastern Mexico, Louisiana, and Texas are possible landfall locations should this storm form. However, these are the first charts produced for Invest 91L, and forecast strength and track are subject to change.

The next name on our list would be Francine.

There are two other areas in the central tropical Atlantic that are being monitored for formation. Each of these areas is over 2,500 miles from Florida's coast. Neither would pose an immediate threat to land.
