Stroke death rate drops in 2022. See data from the last 20 years | Louisiana Health

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cerebrovascular disease (stroke) is one of the leading causes of long-term disability and premature death among people ages 45 to 64. In August, the CDC released data on stroke death rates among people ages 45 to 64 over two decades.

After a decline between 2002 and 2012, stroke death rates among men and women aged 45 to 64 began to rise around 2013 and continued to rise until 2020 for men and 2021 for women.

The stroke mortality rate for all adults aged 45 to 64 years fell from 23.9 per 100,000 in 2002 to 20.2 per 100,000 in 2012, according to the National Center for Health Statistics. The rate then increased by 7% through 2019 and by 12% from 2019 to 2021. The rate then decreased by 2% through 2022.







In men, the death rate from stroke fell from 26.9 per 100,000 in 2002 to 23.5 per 100,000 in 2012. The rate then increased by 10% until 2019 and by 12% from 2019 to 2020. The rate then decreased by 2% until 2022.

From 2002 to 2013, the stroke mortality rate among women fell from 21.1 per 100,000 To 16.6 per 100,000 before increasing by 7% by 2019 17.8 per 100,000And a further increase of 13% from 2019 to 2021.
