Following investigation into Bury murder, woman is remembered

The family of a woman found dead at a property in Walnut Avenue, Bury, have paid their last respects.

Barbara Nomakhosi, 35 years old, was found with numerous injuries. Officers were called to the address on Friday evening (September 6) at around 10.30 p.m.

It is believed that she died earlier that evening.

A spokesman for her family said: “Barbara was a caring and hardworking person. She was so considerate and always looked after her family and friends.

“Barbara loved her family and enjoyed working as a caregiver. We loved Barbara so much and life would not be the same without her.”

Specialist officials continue to support her family as the circumstances of her death continue to be clarified.

Following her death, officers identified a suspect and believe that he was subsequently killed in a fatal collision between a truck and a pedestrian on the M65 eastbound at around 9pm that same evening.

The man, in his forties, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other suspects are currently being sought in connection with Barbara's death and there is no major danger to the public.

Extensive enquiries are currently underway as officers work through the exact circumstances of both incidents. Officers from both GMP and Lancashire are progressing the investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Davis, of GMP's Major Incident Team, said: “I know how much Barbara's family will miss her and I hope that memories of her can provide comfort as they begin to come to terms with this heartbreaking loss.

“This is a complex investigation which is still ongoing and we remain in contact with colleagues in Lancashire as they progress their own enquiries into the circumstances of the fatal collision.

“We are not currently seeking anyone in connection with this tragic incident and I want to reassure residents that there is no major threat to the community. We will continue to support Barbara's family and do everything we can to guide them through this process.”
