Girl arrested for social media post – NBC 6 South Florida

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, a 14-year-old girl was arrested after posting on social media that contained threats against some schools in Broward County.

Investigators said the threats were made in Instagram stories over the weekend. One of the posts included a list of the schools targeted, while other posts contained threats of shootings or other acts of violence, according to a BSO news release.

On Saturday night, investigators were able to trace the threats back to a 14-year-old girl in Lauderdale Lakes, who later confessed to making the threats but claimed it was all a joke.

BSO said the schools mentioned in the post were in different cities, but did not specify which ones.

Broward County Public Schools notified X on Saturday afternoon that they were aware of a threatening post circulating on social media. On Sunday, they released a statement announcing that an arrest had been made.

Broward Schools also notified parents via email about the threat investigation.

After her arrest, the high school student was taken to the juvenile detention center for processing.

According to the BSO press release, she is now charged with making written threats to murder or carry out a mass shooting, threatening to throw, fire, place or discharge an explosive device, and unauthorized use of a two-way communication device.

Investigators reminded the public that these threats are always taken seriously and can lead to criminal charges.
