Swiss coach is impressed by Barcelona prodigy – “I’m glad I’m not the one competing against him”

After a dull draw with Serbia earlier this week, Spain face Switzerland in the second game of the current UEFA Nations League international break, and all eyes will once again be on Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal.

The 17-year-old has made a spectacular start to the season and is building on his successful UEFA Euro 2024 campaign with The Red.

Although he was unable to inspire the national team to a victory over Serbia in Belgrade, Yamal will once again pose Spain's greatest threat in the match against Switzerland – this has not escaped coach Murat Yakin's attention.

Yamal receives praise from Yakin

In fact, Murat Yakin praised Lamine Yamal highly at a press conference today, describing the Barcelona and Spanish prodigy as “fantastic.”

“What he does on the field is fantastic. I'm glad I'm not the one facing him. It's incredible what he does with the ball.” said the Swiss manager, according to MARCA.

On his strategy to stop the Kopa Trophy contender tomorrow night at the Stade de Genève, Yakin added:

“Spain always has great players. We have to try to ensure that Lamine Yamal has little possession and that the Spanish team does not stay on the pitch for too long.”

A lucky streak that came to an end

Before the match against Serbia earlier this week, Lamine Yamal was on an incredible streak of luck.

In fact, the 17-year-old FC Barcelona star was directly involved in eight consecutive official matches, scoring two goals and providing seven assists, but that streak ended against Serbia.

Although he picked up some ailments last week in the match against Real Valladolid and then in the starting line-up against Serbia, La Masia is expected to start for Spain again tomorrow and is eager to score goals again.
