The collaboration between QB Trevor Lawrence and OC Press Taylor is crucial

The Jacksonville Jaguars offense is expected to start the season in top form when they play the Miami Dolphins away.

There is a lot of preparation required for any game in the National Football League, especially the first game of the season, as it is difficult to know exactly what to expect from a team that has not yet taken the field this season.

The Jaguars offense is entering its third season under offensive coordinator Press Taylor. Entering this season, the Jaguars offense hopes to take another step in development and improve upon last season's statistically average offense.

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence says Taylor works hard every week to develop a game plan for the offense. Still, Lawrence notes that Taylor certainly takes Lawrence's concerns and preferences into account when game planning for opposing defenses.

“Press [Taylor] puts a lot of time into all that stuff, all the recording and the breakdowns and all that. Of course I do my own studies and stuff that I like to do every week, but he usually has a pretty good idea of what he wants to do by the end of the week. He puts it together and we kind of put it all together, Doug [Pederson] and the press, we all talk about it, and myself. I usually talk to them, I would say probably Thursday, Friday, we start talking about the opening statement, and then Friday, Saturday we definitely have it in place.

“We do a lot of different things. It just depends on the week. Of course it changes every week but every game has a purpose and you try to see how the game unfolds, how they react and all those things. It's definitely like a chess game. There's a lot that goes into it. I don't do all the prep work but of course I have a say if I'm not happy with something or want to add something. He asks me if he's choosing between a few things. So yeah, we talk about all that.”
