ESPN's Stephen A. Smith Ripped police officers who arrested the Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill Sunday morning in front of the Hard Rock Stadium.

In two posts on X (formerly Twitter), the ESPN First Take host criticized the officials' handling of the situation, calling it “over the top” and “completely unnecessary.” A video of the incident from ESPN's Adam Schefter and others on social media show Hill being handcuffed by officers on the ground.

“This story with the police, the [Hill] is not going to go away, damn it,” Smith said. “Traffic violation? Fine. But what the hell was he was handcuffed face down, then he stood up, and then the other officer runs after him and forces him back to the ground??? No way! Over the top! Wrong! Again, this is not going to go away.”

Smith also referred to the incident earlier this year in which the professional golfer Scottie Scheffler – in which he was arrested outside the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.

“This is nonsense. Completely unnecessary,” Smith said of the arrest on the Hill. “And by the way … I know that the incident with Scottie Scheffler in [Kentucky] — not Florida — and he was arrested, detained, booked. I also know we don't know all the details, blah…blah…blah! But he wasn't put face down on the ground in handcuffs? Then officers forcibly put him back down a second time. No! This story is not going to go away — and it doesn't have to.”
