DeeJay Dallas' return TD is not enough for the Cards to lose to the Bills

Arizona Cardinals running back DeeJay Dallas showed why the team acquired him in the offseason by holding out for the rest of Sunday's 34-28 loss to the Buffalo Bills with a fourth-quarter kick return touchdown.

It was the first return of the NFL's new kickoff format.

Arizona's defense struggled to contain quarterback Josh Allen and the Cardinals' offense showed inconsistency in the second half, but Dallas provided some much-needed momentum at the end.

Trailing 31-20 after Allen's second run score of the afternoon, Tyler Bass opened the game and Dallas did the rest.

When Dallas caught the ball at the five-yard line, it looked like it had been shot out of a cannon as it left several defenders running into empty space, with freshmen Max Melton and Emari Demercado serving as lead blockers.

“(Special teams coordinator and assistant head coach Jeff Rodgers) called a great return,” Dallas told Cardinals sideline reporter Paul Calvisi after the game. “The guys blocked the ball and we read it off the wind. I caught it, made a few moves and put it up.”

A successful two-point conversion further reduced Buffalo's lead to just three points.

Dallas, better known for his special teams skills, was one of Arizona's few offseason additions to receive a three-year contract.

The score was for naught, however, as the Bills scored a field goal on the ensuing drive before stopping Murray and the offense.
