Browns: Amari Cooper and Kevin Stefanski are not concerned about rumors about a transfer of Aiyuk

The Cleveland Browns are just hours away from putting the 2024 NFL offseason behind them and beginning the 2024 NFL season. With the first games about to begin on Sunday, we're going to take a few minutes to wrap up one of the biggest (non)stories of the offseason.

For weeks, the Cleveland Browns sought a trade for WR Brandon Aiyuk. There were rumors that the Browns had offered WR Amary Coopera second-round pick and a fifth-round pick for the younger receiver.

In the end, Aiyuk did not want to come to Cleveland and broke off transfer talks between the San Francisco 49ers and the Pittsburgh Steelers to sign a large contract that allowed him to stay in the Bay Area.

While Cooper acknowledged the rumors, the recipient was not concerned:

“At the end of the day, it's neither here nor there. I'm just focused on playing my best football in Week 1,” Cooper said.

The Browns head coach was also absent:

Neither do we, says our Curtiss Brown:

I would take out my soapbox in this situation, but the season is just beginning…

After the proposed deal was announced, Cooper expressed his thoughts on Instagram:

Take it as you will, some believe Cooper was irritated when the Browns tried to move him, and others thought it was no big deal. During the buildup to the Green Bay Packers' preseason game against the Cleveland Browns, Cooper didn't seem to mind at all:

The Browns' relationship with Amari Cooper is good

  • The NFL is a business. Just like managers in a regular job, general managers will find a way to improve the quality of their team.
  • Believe it or not, CEOs are more proactive. However, they do so in ways that are not obvious.
  • General Manager Andrew Berry has been aggressive before, which should come as no surprise.

I am not the only one who holds this opinion.

Cooper knows it's a business and isn't the type to act out of character. Given the uncertainty in the WR room beyond this year as to who will be on the team, Andrew Berry was simply doing his job.

You can't blame him for wanting to improve the team. People have complained about a general manager not finding ways to improve the team. The Browns have one and now people suddenly have a problem with it.

Make it make sense. The relationship is fine. Cooper will likely be playing his last year in Cleveland. Could he return? Yes, but nothing is certain.

Overall, the relationship between them is good, there is no reason to overreact.

Now it's time for the 2024 NFL season to begin, so we can put the offseason behind us and look forward.
