Why is the NFL Fantasy app not working? Fantasy football owners upset because they can't log in during the Ravens-Chiefs game

Fantasy football managers encountered some problems on Thursday.

The NFL Fantasy app, one of the largest fantasy football platforms available, went down during the season-opening game between the Ravens and Chiefs.

It disappointed managers who were looking forward to fantasy football in Week 1 of the NFL season and were unable to keep up with their newly assembled teams.

Here are the latest updates on the NFL Fantasy app outage and how managers responded to the issues on Thursday.

Why is the NFL Fantasy app not working?

Around the beginning of the Ravens vs. Chiefs game, fans noticed that their NFL Fantasy app was not working properly.

The official NFL Fantasy Football X account tweeted about the issue, saying they were aware of the issues and were working to fix them. The account has not been updated since then and there are no signs of improvement.

On Downdetector.com, which provides live data on broken apps, the NFL Fantasy app experienced a spike in outages around 9 p.m. ET, just before the season opener.

Around halftime, there still seemed to be issues that players were having with the app as it was not yet back to normal operation.

What does “API limit exceeded” mean?

When opening the app, some managers received a message on a completely black screen that the “API rate limit” had been exceeded.

This is what the screen looked like:

API stands for Application Programming Interface. APIs have limitations. If a user exceeds a certain number of requests, they may receive a “rate limit exceeded” message.

The message in the NFL Fantasy app appears to be due to too many requests to the app in a very short period of time, which makes sense given the upcoming season opener.

Reactions to the NFL Fantasy app outage

Around the start of play on Thursday night, most users noticed that their apps weren't working. Naturally, many took to social media to confirm that others were experiencing the same issue.

Shortly thereafter, many were quick to claim that this was an annual problem for the NFL Fantasy Football app in Week 1.

There are no positive updates on whether the app's issues were resolved before or during the second half of Chiefs vs. Ravens, but it's certainly not an individual problem — almost everyone seems to have an issue with the NFL Fantasy app on Thursday night.

Given the app's popularity, millions of people were confused and upset about not being able to see their fantasy teams for the first game of the season.
