According to SAPD, a juvenile suspect was arrested after making terrorist threats against schools on Instagram

SAN ANTONIO – A teenager faces numerous charges after making terrorist threats at seven schools in the San Antonio area, police said.

The 12-year-old suspect was arrested around 8 p.m. Sunday in the 1700 block of South Hamilton Avenue, according to San Antonio police.

The suspect is said to have posted a photo of a large-caliber firearm with several names of schools and future dates on Instagram in September. The threats circulated on social media.

Because the post mentioned several schools affiliated with the San Antonio Independent School District, the district said its police department is investigating the threats with assistance from local law enforcement.

In a statement, SAISD described the threats as unbelievable.

“We are aware of online activity circulating in schools in local school districts, including SAISD, that is causing concern. Our SAISD Police Department has been investigating this activity in conjunction with local law enforcement, including SAPD, and at this time it is determined that this is not a credible threat,” the statement said.

After SAPD was made aware of the threats, the department's Southwest Texas Fusion Center began identifying the person behind them.

With the help of numerous law enforcement agencies, the suspect was arrested and charged with seven counts of terroristic threats – putting public fear of serious bodily harm – police said.

According to SAISD, no weapons were found in the suspect's home, so the threats were deemed implausible.

As a precautionary measure, SAISD is increasing police presence around campus this week.
