Apple will unveil the iPhone 16 on Monday. Here's what to expect.

On Monday, Apple is expected to unveil its iPhone 16 models along with other new products at a livestream event called “It's Glowtime.” The latest iPhone generation will mark what one analyst called “the biggest upgrade cycle in Apple's history.”

The event is scheduled to take place on September 9 at 1 p.m. Eastern Time at the technology company's headquarters in Cupertino, California.

All eyes will be on Apple's latest iPhone lineup, all of which will feature Apple Intelligence—Apple's answer to the generative AI revolution—which will be built into iOS 18, according to an announcement from Apple about the new AI feature in June.

Integrated into apps like Mail and Notes and designed to simplify everyday tasks like writing lists, “it uses the power of Apple silicon to understand and create language and images, operate across applications, and draw on personal context to simplify and speed up everyday tasks,” Apple says.

Apple Intelligence is also expected to make the phones' virtual assistant, Siri, work better, but perhaps not until next year. As Bloomberg reports, the “full set of Apple Intelligence features” will be made available “through multiple updates to iOS 18 in late 2024 and the first half of 2025.”

“The release of iPhone 16 is all about Apple's intelligence and Cupertino unleashing the AI revolution for consumers,” said Dan Ives, technology analyst at Wedbush Securities, in a research note.

He believes that this move will force Apple developers to create AI-powered apps to keep up with the “AI tidal wave” brought about by the iPhone 16.

At the same time, according to analysts, the goal is to integrate Apple Intelligence discreetly into the phones' software, at least from a consumer perspective.

“The goal is for AI to be behind the scenes and integrated into all applications: invisible and intuitive,” CB Insights analysts said in a research note. “For Apple, all roads lead back to the user experience.”

Here's what else you should know about the new iPhone.

Camera tips and tricks for the iPhone

Mega display size

The latest and greatest iPhone models will have larger screens, according to analysts who track the company. The regular Pro model will see its screen increase from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches, according to Ives. The larger Pro Max's screen will grow from 6.7 to 6.9 inches.

New chip

The latest iPhone models will likely feature the new A18 and A18 Pro chips, which power Apple Intelligence and make the devices faster. The improved chips will also improve the phones' battery life, according to research reports, which is a concern for many consumers.

Better camera

The phones' cameras will also feature cutting-edge technology, which Wedbush's Ives called a “key selling point.”

Analysts at BofA Global Research expect a 48-megapixel camera with an ultra-wide-angle lens, as well as a new capture button that will give consumers more control and the ability to better focus and zoom in on subjects.

Prices

Ives does not expect any major price increases, “because in our view, Apple will not lose any upgrades (and the switch to AI) if it increases prices.”

Currently, the iPhone 15 starts at $799, the iPhone 15 Pro starts at $999, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at $1,199.

Customers typically have to wait at least a week after the product launch before they can purchase new tech devices. Analysts at BofA Global Research say that if the iPhone 16 starts shipping on September 20, the devices could be in customers' hands by the end of the month.
