Oregon: Newly married nurse allegedly killed by neighbor and wanted to move out

A nurse who was allegedly murdered by her neighbor in Oregon just two weeks after her wedding had plans to move to be with her husband far away in Washington state, her family said.

The remains of 32-year-old Melissa Jubane were recovered by police on Friday evening. The three-day search ended with the arrest of her 27-year-old neighbor Bryce Johnathan Schubert, who was charged with first-degree murder.

The newlywed was reported missing on Wednesday after she failed to show up for her morning shift at St. Vincent Hospital in southwest Portland. Her coworkers requested a wellness check for her, but police found no sign of her at her apartment.

Jubane married her husband, Bryan Llantero of Hawaii, on August 24 on the island of Honolulu and had just returned to Oregon when she disappeared.

The newlyweds met in Hawaii and were together for over a decade, flying back and forth to see each other. According to KHON, Llantero last heard from his new wife the morning she disappeared.

Jubane will stay in her home in Oregon because it is close to her job, while Llantero will stay with Melissa's family in Washington state, her mother-in-law Imelda Llantero told the local news station.

But after the wedding, Jubane wanted to find a job in Washington so she could live with her new husband, Imelda Llantero said.

“She has the sweetest soul in the world and I wanted to create a space for everyone who was involved with her, who knew her, who had a really close relationship with her, just everyone who has beautiful memories of her,” Marquez said in a post on Instagram.
