Apple iPhone 16 and 16 Pro details leaked: Everything you need to know about specs, price and bold design changes

Apple will unveil the long-awaited iPhone 16 series on Monday, September 9, introducing four models worldwide – iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Rumors and leaks ahead of the announcement have shaped expectations about the new series, providing insights into the design, display, processor, battery, camera features and expected pricing.

The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are rumored to ditch the diagonal rear camera arrangement and instead adopt vertically stacked cameras in a capsule-shaped module, breaking away from the design language seen since the iPhone 11. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to retain a similar triple-camera setup as their predecessors. Playful color options like white, black, blue, green, and pink are part of the alleged design changes.

As for the display, the new iPhone 16 Pro models could have slightly larger screens compared to the existing models. For the iPhone 16 Pro, the screen size is expected to increase from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches, while that of the iPhone 16 Pro Max could increase from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches. The series is also expected to feature thinner bezels, which could improve the overall viewing experience but could make one-handed use more difficult.

The iPhone 16 series will likely be powered by the A18 chip in all models, each with 8GB of RAM to support new Apple Intelligence features. In previous generations, Apple differentiated the base and Pro models with different chipsets – such as the A16 in the iPhone 15 and the A17 in the iPhone 15 Pro Max. This update is expected to bring faster performance and improved power efficiency. Speculation also suggests that Apple is working on a graphene thermal system for the iPhone 16 range, with the Pro models potentially featuring metal battery casings to minimise overheating. The possibility of offering Pro models with up to 2TB of storage is being considered but is unconfirmed.

The iPhone 16 is rumored to have a 3,561mAh battery, while the iPhone 16 Plus could have a 4,006mAh battery. The Pro models are also expected to get upgrades: the iPhone 16 Pro is said to have a 3,577mAh battery, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max a 4,676mAh battery. These upgrades are said to be supported by 40W wired fast charging and 20W MagSafe charging to account for the longer charging times due to the larger batteries.

Camera improvements are also on the horizon for the iPhone 16 series. Apple is reportedly experimenting with an optical anti-reflective coating for the cameras to improve photo quality by minimizing issues like lens flare and ghosting. This technology uses atomic layer deposition (ALD) to protect the camera lens from environmental damage while maintaining its light-gathering ability. “The coating, applied by atomic layer deposition (ALD) equipment, not only protects the camera lens system from environmental damage but also maintains its ability to effectively capture light.” The iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to include an improved 48MP ultra-wide camera lens that will enable better low-light performance and 48MP ProRAW photos in ultra-wide mode. The iPhone 16 Pro Max could significantly improve optical zoom capabilities with a super-telephoto periscope camera and offer up to 5x optical zoom – a feature currently limited to the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

As for pricing, rumors suggest a starting price of $799 for the iPhone 16, which is roughly Rs 67,100. The iPhone 16 Plus is expected to be priced at $899, roughly Rs 75,500. The Pro models could have a higher starting price: the iPhone 16 Pro will cost $1,099 (roughly Rs 92,300) for the 256GB variant, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max starts at $1,199 (roughly Rs 1,00,700).

Although these prices are speculated for the US market, the Indian prices could be slightly higher. Like the iPhone 15 series, the Apple iPhone 15 Pro was launched at Rs 134,900 and the Pro Max at Rs 159,900. In India, the starting price of the iPhone 15 was Rs 79,900 for the 128GB storage option, and the Plus model was available at Rs 89,900. The iPhone 16 series could follow a similar pricing pattern, although the Pro models could see a slight price hike due to new features and higher production costs.

To recap, Apple will launch the iPhone 16 lineup on September 9. Four models are expected: iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The new series is expected to bring design changes, larger displays, a unified A18 chip across all models, battery improvements, improved camera features, and different pricing, with the iPhone 16 starting at $799. The event is highly anticipated by tech enthusiasts worldwide.
