RILA and the International Association of Chiefs of Police announce new partnership

The Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) and the International Association of Chiefs of Police have announced a new partnership to combat retail crime. Together, RILA and IACP will develop educational resources, facilitate information sharing and improve collaboration between leading retailers and law enforcement agencies to combat organized retail crime, mass theft and civil unrest and restore vibrancy to communities across the country.

The RILA-IACP partnership focuses on combating underreporting of retail crime and deepening collaboration between retailers and law enforcement. RILA and IACP will work together to develop training, best practices, resources and guidance for retailers and law enforcement on retail crime issues.

“Through our work with the Vibrant Communities Initiative, retailers and law enforcement have learned firsthand the importance of collaboration in tackling complex societal challenges like organized retail crime. As we expand our ecosystem of stakeholders committed to working together to combat retail crime, the IACP represents a key partner in this groundbreaking effort to restore the vibrancy of our communities,” said Lisa LaBruno, Senior EVP of Retail Operations at RILA. “We are confident that through this partnership, both retailers and police leadership will value our shared resources and expertise, and the result will be a united and effective community front against retail crime.”

“ORC offenders often move from store to store, across multiple jurisdictions, stealing everything from everyday items to luxury goods. Because they operate across multiple jurisdictions, it is difficult for a single law enforcement agency to know the extent of their activities, and this underscores the need for cooperation between police agencies and retailers,” said IACP President Wade Carpenter. “We look forward to working with RILA to develop new resources and training that will enable our joint members to successfully address this growing challenge.”
