PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – An isolated severe thunderstorm moved through parts of Columbiana and Beaver counties Friday evening, bringing with it several reports of storm damage and some hail.

The cause of this damage is most likely a downburst or microburst, since collapsing storms can carry all the ice to the surface and winds are also the result of weakening storm peaks.

Showers associated with a cold front will move out of the Ridges and Laurel Highlands early Saturday morning. They will be followed by brisk northwest winds and cooler temperatures today.

Especially in Pittsburgh and further north, highs will barely reach 18 degrees. In southwest Pennsylvania and northwest Virginia, temperatures will be more like 18 to 20 degrees, where there may be a few more hours of sunshine.

Wind gusts will reach up to 20 mph at times. Some lake effect showers are also expected to move into our northern counties and linger through the afternoon, especially in areas north of I-80.

Due to a certain instability and a slight rotation that already exists, waterspouts are also a good possibility along the shores of Lake Erie.

Saturday night into Sunday will be the coolest of the week, with temperatures dropping to 7 to 9 degrees across the board. At higher elevations, lows could be just over 4 degrees by Sunday morning. Temperatures will remain below average through Sunday afternoon, but will approach average again next week.

A slow-moving high pressure system will remain over our region for several days next week.

This means several dry days and increasingly warmer afternoons by the end of the week.
