Teenager arrested for threatening Madison County schools

MADISON, Florida (WCTV) – A 13-year-old teenager was arrested after allegedly threatening area schools.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office said the investigation was launched Sunday after a social media post threatening Madison County schools and featuring an image of a gun.

School officials said the school district will be taking extra precautions at school this week following last week's events in Winder, GA.

On Monday, students in grades 1-8 are not allowed to bring book bags onto campus.

Students in grades 9-12 will have all bags searched before they are allowed to enter their classroom.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) is investigating a threat against Madison County schools. The threat was made via a social media post Sunday afternoon.

Sheriff David Harper posted on the MCSO's Facebook page: “The Madison County Sheriff's Office was made aware of a social media post that included an image of a weapon and a threat against Madison schools. We are actively working to identify the person(s) responsible.”

In light of the threats, Madison County school officials took action on Sunday and enacted safety protocols:
