Watch the memorial service for Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau

MEDIA, Pa. (CBS) — Family, close friends and the Hockey Community come today at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Media, Delaware County, for the funeral of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreautwo popular hockey players from South Jersey who were killed by a suspected drunk driver on August 29.

Montreal Canadiens winger Cole Caufield was one of many members of the city's NHL community who showed their support to the Gaudreau family.

“It's the only thing we can do,” Caufield said. “It's obviously a really tough time. It doesn't feel real yet. Wherever he went, he was loved and respected.”

Caufield announced last week that he change his jersey number from No. 22 to No. 13 to honor his “hero”.

Caufield and Gaudreau were teammates on Team USA at the 2024 IIHF World Championship in Prague.

The funeral will be followed by a week of memorial services for the brothers, who hit while cycling in Salem County, New Jersey, the night before her sister's wedding.

Hundreds of mourners flocked to the D'Anjolell Memorial Homes on Sunday for a public viewing. Members of the community also gathered on Friday at Gloucester Catholic High School, which both men attended and where Matthew Gaudreau later coached, for a private memorial ceremony.

Pearl Jam honored the brothers at a concert in Philadelphia on Saturday and sports teams from across the country honored the brothers following her death.
