Omaha woman dies, others injured in accident on Highway 77

UEHLING, Nebraska (WOWT) – Authorities are investigating a crash that left one person dead and others hospitalized Saturday night.

According to the Dodge County Sheriff's Office, the collision occurred on Highway 77, two miles south of Uehling, around 7:30 p.m.

An investigation revealed that a Dodge Durango traveling westbound failed to stop at a stop sign on the highway. A Jeep Compass traveling southbound on the highway collided with the Durango.

A press release states that the vehicles ended up in a ditch. The drivers and passengers of both vehicles were taken to hospital.

Officials said a 72-year-old passenger in the Jeep, Dorothy Norgard of Omaha, died in the hospital. Another person in the Jeep was flown to Omaha by rescue helicopter.

The driver of the Durango – Julia Johnson, a 60-year-old from Malmo, Nebraska – was cited for failure to stop and careless driving.

The accident is currently under investigation. Authorities report that speeding and alcohol are not considered to be factors in the accident.
