12-year-old arrested for threatening local schools on social media

According to SAPD, a 12-year-old boy was taken into police custody and now faces multiple charges of making terrorist threats.

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police have arrested a teenager accused of posting a photo of a firearm on social media and threatening violence against local schools.

In a Facebook post from SAPD on Sunday, police said they arrested a 12-year-old boy after becoming aware of a social media post circulating on various platforms. The post included the names of seven different local schools from San Antonio ISD, Edgewood ISD and an Idea Public School, dates and a gun in the background.

During their investigation, SAPD Fusion investigators were able to confirm the identity of the perpetrator and arrest him without any problems. The youth is accused of seven counts of terrorist threats and serious bodily harm.

Officials confirmed that no weapons or other means of carrying out the threats were found on the teenager, but said they take all threats seriously.

The police are also urging parents to keep an eye on their children's social media activities.

A letter was sent to parents at San Antonio ISD. The statement said the threat was not credible, but the district would increase police presence on campuses this week as a precautionary measure.

Idea Mays Academy also posted about the investigation on social media and explained that its campus is closed. In this state, students must leave their backpacks at home.

Edgewood ISD police also confirmed there were no weapons in the suspect's home, and officers reiterated that the threat was not credible. They said they take all potential threats seriously and continue to implement additional security measures to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.
