Buckeyes face their first open week and look forward to Marshall

So we talked about Week 2 being a big week nationally for the Big Ten with five games against Power Four Conference opponents. The Big Ten went just 2-3 in those games with Illinois disturbing Kansas And Nebraska Redirect to Oklahoma. Iowa And Northwest Let games slip away State of Iowa And dukerespectively. Michigan was never really able to do so in his game against Texas.

There was another notable victory with Oregon wait Boise State (perhaps the best team in the Group of Five) at home.

And State of Michigan went on tour and caused a surprise at Maryland in the first Big Ten game of the season.

These are the Big Ten games of the second week:

Games on Friday

* Indiana 77, Western Illinois 3 – Indiana led its helpless FCS opponent 42-3 at halftime and scored five more touchdowns in the second half. IU broke the school record of 76 points set in 1901 against Franklin College.

* Duke 26, Northwestern 20, 2 OT – Duke picked up its sixth straight win over Northwestern, catching up with a late field goal to force overtime. The Blue Devils then scored two touchdowns on three total plays in the overtime periods and made a defensive stop in the second overtime to secure the win.

Games on Saturday

* Texas 31, Michigan 12 – Texas jumped out to a 24-3 lead and won easily at the Big House. Reigning national champion Michigan had won 29 straight regular-season games, 23 straight home games and 16 straight overall before the game. Texas QB Quinn Ewers threw for 249 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Michigan managed just 286 yards on offense, including just 82 yards on the run.

* Penn State 34, Bowling Green 27 – Penn State was a five-touchdown favorite, but the Nittany Lions trailed the upstart Falcons 24-20 at halftime. Reason returned in the second half. QB Drew Allar threw for 204 yards and two TDs, while RB Nick Singleton ran 119 yards and scored one point.

* Minnesota 48, Rhode Island 0 – After an opening defeat against North CarolinaMinnesota tied its record with this laugh against FCS URI. QB Max Brosmer threw 271 yards and two touchdowns for the Golden Gophers.

* Rutgers 49, Akron 17 – Rutgers benefited from RB’s tough run Kyle Monaghan (27 carries, 208 yards, three TDs) led to this victory. The Scarlet Knights improved to 2-0.

* Iowa State 20, Iowa 19 – Host Iowa led for most of the game, but lost with six seconds left on a 54-yard field goal by ISU's Kyle Konrady. Iowa missed several key touchdown opportunities and only led 13-0 at halftime. The Hawkeyes' vaunted defense allowed a crucial 30-yard pass in the final 30 seconds that put the opposing Cyclones within field goal range.

* Michigan State 27, Maryland 24 – Maryland led for a long time, but visiting MSU scored the game’s last 10 points – including Jonathan Kim’s game-winning 37-yard field goal with one second left – and gave coach Jonathan Smith has the first Big Ten win in his conference debut. MSU QB Aidan Chiles threw for 363 yards and three touchdowns, while overcoming three interceptions.

* Washington 30, Eastern Michigan 9 – Huskies quarterback Will Rogers was 21 of 26 passes for 261 yards and four TDs in the easy win for U-Dub.

* Wisconsin 27, South Dakota 13 – Wisconsin RB Chez Mellusi Playing the day after his grandfather's death, he ran for two touchdowns as the Badgers beat FCS South Dakota.

* Ohio State 56, West Michigan 0 – Ohio State outscored WMU 683-99 in total yardage and posted its first shutout in exactly five years, since a 2019 win over Cincinnati (42-0).

* Illinois 23, Kansas 17 – Illinois trailed No. 19 Kansas 17-13 in the fourth quarter before scoring the final 10 points to pull out the big win and move to 2-0. The Illini led 13-10 at halftime after a 30-yard interception return for a touchdown by Xavier Scott in the last minute of the half. The Illini then took the lead Kaden Feagins 1-yard touchdown run with 9:34 minutes remaining and their defense secured the lead.

* Nebraska 28, Colorado 10 – These old Big 12 rivals renewed their legendary rivalry in Lincoln. Nebraska avenged a 36-14 win over Colorado last year in Boulder and also secured its first 2-0 start since winning its first seven games in 2016. QB Dylan Raiola threw for 185 yards and a TD, RB Dante Dowdell ran for two points and CB Tommy Hill intercepted Shedeur Sanders Pass and returned it 7 yards for a touchdown as the Huskers rolled to their biggest win in a long time and certainly the best under the second-year head coach Matt Rhule.

* Oregon 37, Boise State 34 – Big Ten After Dark got a little crazy as No. 7 Oregon had to rally late to improve to 2-0 and also earn its first win over visiting Boise State in four tries. Oregon needed touchdowns on punt and kick returns in this game and eventually secured the win with a 25-yard field goal by Atticus Sappington when time ran out. QB Dillon Gabriel threw for 243 yards and two touchdowns for the Ducks. Oregon extended its nationally best home winning streak against non-conference teams to 34 games in a row.

* USC 48, State of Utah 0 – No. 13 USC continued its victory LSU in Las Vegas by hosting Utah State in its first-ever game as a Big Ten team at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. And even though many of the lights went out in the second half at the 101-year-old stadium, the Trojans were able to complete their first shutout since 2011. QB Müller Moos In his first home game for the Trojans, he threw for 229 yards and scored a touchdown, even though he only played the first 2 1/2 quarters.
