Ella Langley and Riley Green share the story behind their viral collaboration | 106.3 The Bear

Ella Langley And Riley Green stopped by The Bobby Bones Show to share how her viral song changed her life!

Five years ago, Langley moved to Nashville to pursue her musical dreams. She knew that music would always be her ultimate goal, so after two years of studying at Auburn University, she dropped out and devoted herself to music full-time. “You look like you love me” started going viral, her career took off. But the song was never meant to see the light of day. She wrote it as a joke with Aaron Raitiere, but the label eventually liked it and wanted her to release it. She put this idea on hold for a long time, but eventually gave up on it when she noticed the fans' reactions to it after she posted a short clip of the song on TikTok. Then Riley Green asked her to join him on tour, and she thought since they are from the same area and grew up listening to the same type of music, he should be on the song. She first met him on his tour bus, and the first thing she said to him was, “Riley, do you like making money?” Her “pick-up line” caught his attention, and he agreed to be on the song. She asked him to write the second verse based on how he would react if a woman came to the bar and said that to him. Neither of them had any idea the song would become so big. For Green, this is the first time one of his songs has gone viral, and he admitted it's crazy to see because he barely knows how to use TikTok.

The old-fashioned speaking verses were a risk for Langley because they're not exactly popular and traditional country is just starting to come back. But she grew up doing what she enjoys and not what others expect of her. She argued with the label about whether she should sing or speak on the verses and told them she would never put out a version where she sings the verses. She told them she sings on every other song, so why can't she just have one where she doesn't sing the verses? Plus, it would make it stand out more. Plus, the story of the girl walking up to a guy in a bar isn't a traditional theme in country. Langley just started her first headlining tour and it's wild to see people singing along to every word of the song she said. It's incredible to see your dreams come true. Every time the two play the song, the crowd gets louder.

In the studio, Langley and Green sang “You Look Like You Love Me.”

Langley's debut album hangover is out now.
