NFL 2024 Week 1 Betting – Jets-49ers Odds, Picks and Lines

Week 1 NFL action concludes Monday night with Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets visiting the reigning NFC champion San Francisco 49ers. Rodgers, who tore his Achilles after just four snaps last season, will be playing not far from his college home of Cal, but his Jets are trailing by 4.5 points.

New York finished 7-10 last season, but, buoyed by Rodgers' return, is the favorite to win the AFC East (+160). The 49ers just qualified for the Super Bowl and have a 6-1 chance to win the Lombardi Trophy this season, trailing only the Kansas City Chiefs (5-1).

Monday Night Football begins at 8:20 p.m. ET (on ESPN ABC ESPN+).

Favorite selection

Nozzles +4.5: Over the last 24 years, the loser of the Super Bowl has a 5-19 record against the spread in Week 1 of the following season. Yes, I'm looking at you, San Francisco. In addition, Kyle Shanahan has just a 2-5 record against the spread in Week 1 as the 49ers' head coach.

Is Christian McCaffrey 100% fit? What about Trent Williams and Brandon Aiyuk? Do we trust San Francisco's offensive line? And what about the fact that Nick Sorensen is the team's fourth different defensive coordinator in the last five years? These are all valid questions.

On the Jets side of the equation, I get 4.5 points with a great defense, above-average quarterback, improved offensive line and real weapons in Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson. Needless to say, I like the dog here. — Joe Fortenbaugh
