Franklin County woman pleads guilty to second-degree murder of her ex-husband

Carol Long of Franklin County faces 15 to 20 years in prison for the murder of her ex-husband after pleading guilty to first-degree murder on Monday.

According to the statement of facts, Long and Walter Sigmon fought back in April 2021.

According to the documents, Long claimed that Sigmon was choking her, so she stabbed him with a kitchen knife.

Long reportedly called someone and told them, “I screwed up. Walter is gone, he's dead.”

The person, who was not named in the statement of facts, called the police.

When authorities arrived, Long admitted to murdering Sigmon.

His body was found in the garage. The coroner reported that he had suffered more than 90 stab wounds.

Long is scheduled to appear in court again in December for sentencing.
