8-year-old dies after ATV accident in northern Kentucky

A young girl died in an ATV accident in northern Kentucky over the weekend, according to the Owen County Sheriff's Office. Officials say it happened north of Jonesville, on the Grant-Owen county line. Officials say a father was riding an ATV on a family farm with his two children. Officials say the ATV rolled down a hill, killing an 8-year-old girl. On Monday morning, the Hamilton County Coroner identified the girl as Emma Haacke. The father, in his early 30s, and a 4-year-old child were also injured in the accident. After the accident, both children were taken to Cincinnati Children's. The father was taken to UC Medical Center. The extent of the father and 4-year-old child's injuries were not disclosed. The bishop of the Diocese of Covington released a statement after the accident. “The Fortners and Haackes are people of strong faith and trust in God, but we know the shadow that such grief and loss can cast,” said Bishop John Iffert of the Diocese of Covington. “As we mourn with them, we surround Erin, Alexander, Deacon Jim, Julie and the entire family with prayers and love. Emma was a bright and radiant child who recently celebrated her First Communion. We trust that she is now in the loving embrace of the Lord, whose mercy and love is inexhaustible and limitless.”
