On Monday, funerals pour in after the unexpected death of a Casper doctor

CASPER, Wyoming – The Casper medical community joined hundreds of citizens in posting condolences for a longtime Casper physician as news of his unexpected death spread Monday.

The death of Dr. Samuel Vigneri was announced on social media by Women's Health Associates, his practice.

“We are deeply saddened by the unexpected passing of Dr. Samuel Vigneri. Dr. Vigneri was a beloved member of the Women's Health Associates team and served the Casper community for many years,” they said. “His dedication to patient care and his kind spirit will be greatly missed.”

“The staff of Casper Women's Care and Dr. Merrill would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and staff of our colleague Dr. Sam Vigneri,” another Casper office posted in response. “He will be truly missed.”

According to his bio page at Women's Health Associates, Dr. Vigneri was a native of Casper and a graduate of Natrona County High School. He received his medical degree from Creighton University Medical School in Omaha and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut. He was married with three children and was an avid fly fisherman, it said.

The comments section on the Women's Health Associates Facebook page was full of praise on Monday.

“He was simply incredible,” wrote Sarah Rudkin. “We will miss him very much. My heart breaks for his family.”

“Sending love to all of you,” wrote Amanda McBeath Flanagan. “My heart aches for his family, both at home and at work. He was truly a wonderful man.”

“He was incredible to work with, an incredible doctor and the most caring doctor,” said Trista Russell. “The kind of man who will come in on his day off, deliver your baby and then call you personally when he hears that things didn't go as planned.”

“He was a great doctor and an even greater person,” said Alisha Senti. “I will never be able to thank him enough for the care he gave me and my family.”

“He was with us through some of our darkest times,” Kaitlyn Roberts wrote. “He never gave up on us, helped us have our daughter and welcomed her into the world. We will miss him terribly.”

“He saved me and my daughter and was the GOAT of obstetrics!” wrote Nicole Mussen.

Staff at Women's Health Associates said they were grieving but were working to develop treatment plans for their patients and would provide updates soon.

Information about the memorial services would be announced at a later date, it said.
