It remains to be seen what impact the injury will have on his performance, but according to ESPN's Rich Cimini, the New York Jets quarterback is unlikely to re-rupture Aaron Rodgers' Achilles tendon.

Cimini spoke with Dr. Stephen Silver, chief of sports medicine and orthopedics at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey, who estimated the chance of another Achilles tendon tear at two percent.

“I'm not worried or have no problem with him playing quarterback again this season,” Silver said. “… At this point, I'm more concerned, not just about Aaron Rodgers, but anybody who wants to play in the NFL at 40 years old and turns 41.”

Rodgers joined the Jets with much fanfare after a fantastic 15-year career as the Packers' starter. His resume includes four NFL MVP awards, 10 Pro Bowls and a Super Bowl XLV victory. The ex-Cal star also threw 475 touchdowns and just 105 interceptions.

New York came through an offseason trade and the hype was huge entering the 2023 season. But Rodgers suffered a torn left Achilles tendon just minutes after making his debut with the Jets against the Buffalo Bills in September, costing him the entire season.

That optimism was renewed in the offseason when Rodgers returned healthy, the offensive line was reshuffled, and a top-five defense returned along with offensive superstars Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson.

Rodgers' torn Achilles was a disaster for New York on its own. The injury was made worse by the fact that the team had to rely on Zach Wilson, Trevor Siemian and Tim Boyle in his absence. The front office apparently didn't consider a scenario where they would need a backup player to play important snaps.

The Jets didn't make that mistake again. If Rodgers were out again, they would turn to one of the game's best (if not the best) backups: Tyrod Taylor, a 14-year veteran.

Taylor last played for the New York Giants in 2022 and 2023. Last year, he played in 11 games (five as a starter) and completed 116 of 180 passes for 1,341 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions. Taylor also ran for 197 yards on 38 carries.

New York, however, hopes he doesn't actually have to see the field.
