Video shows large black bear walking along crowded beach in California

A beach day at South Lake Tahoe got a little more interesting last month when the camera caught a bear strolling along the crowded shore.

Videographer Kennedy Wilkins told Storyful that he was on a trip when he saw the shaggy bear walking along the shore on a hot day. He pulled out his camera to photograph the large black bear enjoying a cool stroll on the beach, dipping his feet in the water.

Although a pedal boat, a jet ski and other human devices blocked the way, the furry visitor seemed unfazed by the obstacles or the large crowd of spectators. Fortunately, the two-legged beachgoers knew to keep a safe distance from their guest.

Towards the end of the clip, you can see the bear clumsily coming out of the frame and wading into the water up to about chest height, presumably to cool off on this sunny late August afternoon.

Encounters with black bears are not uncommon in many parts of California, as they are currently the only known species of bear living there, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW). Because they can live in a wide variety of habitats, including wild, rural, and residential areas, black bears are found throughout the state but often end up near humans in search of garbage and food that we typically leave behind.
