Death in the Grand Canyon: Man who was on the 10th day of a hike found dead

A man on the tenth day of a hike in the Grand Canyon was found dead, another death in a numerous deaths in the national park this year.

On September 7 at around 5:30 a.m., the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received news of a death at Poncho's Kitchen, near river mile 137 on the Colorado River.

“Park rangers arrived at the scene and located the victim, Patrick Horton, 59, of Salida, Colorado. Horton was on the 10th day of a non-commercial river trip on the Colorado River and was found dead by members of his group,” the National Park Service said in a Sept. 9 press release.

The National Park Service and the Coconino County Coroner's Office are investigating Horton's death.

Horton's death is the eighth death in the park since early July.
