Woman allegedly hit police officer on the head and resisted arrest

JONESBORO, Arkansas (KAIT) – Police have arrested a Jonesboro woman after she punched an officer in the head while attempting to arrest her child.

On Monday, September 9, Craighead County District Judge David Boling found there was probable cause to charge 34-year-old Brittany Sheree Collins with obstructing a police officer/threatening physical violence, inducing a juvenile to commit a delinquent offense, third-degree assault/intentionally causing personal injury, and resisting arrest/refusing to submit to arrest/use of force.

According to the affidavit, Jonesboro police officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Allis Street on Thursday, Sept. 5, for a harassment call.

The victim, a Jonesboro police officer, arrived and spoke with a group of juveniles outside a home. He confirmed that the juveniles had been harassing the residents of the home.

When an officer tried to arrest one of the teens, they ran away while “the others continued walking down the street shouting obscenities. [the] Victim,” the affidavit states.

During this time, Collins went out and joined the youths. She was later identified as the mother of one of the youths and screamed obscenities

As the officer attempted to detain the “unruly” youth, Collins began punching the officer in the head. The youth then struck the officer in the back of the head with a cell phone, causing a “severe laceration.”

Collins refused to “submit to arrest” and had to be forcibly detained, the affidavit states.

Collins is being held at the Craighead County Detention Center on cash or $150,000 bail.

Her arraignment is scheduled for Monday, October 28.
