Filming of “Happy Gilmore 2” with Adam Sandler: “We have only just begun”

Adam Sandler celebrates the start of production of Happy Gilmore 2the sequel to the 1996 comedy.

“It's not over yet. The way I see it, we've only just begun,” Sandler posted on Instagram.

Sandler and Netflix shared a photo from the sequel's dressing room, showing the Boston Bruins hockey team jersey the actor wore in the film.

Happy Gilmore 2 is a sequel to the 1996 Dennis Dugan comedy. The film is about Happy Gilmore, a failed hockey player who discovers he has a talent for golf. Happy begins competing in golf tournaments to raise enough money to prevent foreclosure on his grandmother's house.

Netflix greenlit a sequel earlier this year and Sandler hinted that Travis Kelce would make a cameo in the new film.

“We have something beautiful for Travis,” Sandler said on The Tonight Show last month. “He'll come over.”

He continued: “He's a very nice guy. You would love him in real life. What a tall, handsome guy. Funny and damn cool. He's a stud and so funny.”

Sandler, who is reportedly co-writing the script with Tim Herlihy, also hinted that professional golfers would make guest appearances in the film.

Universal Pictures released the film, directed by Dennis Dugan, which grossed over $82 million worldwide and still enjoys cult status. The original film also starred Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen, Frances Bay, Carl Weathers, Allen Covert, Kevin Nealon, Peter Kelamis, Richard Kiel, Dennis Dugan, Joe Flaherty and Jared Snellenberg. Happy Gilmore also included cameos by Lee Trevino, Verne Lundquist, Mark Lye, Ben Stiller and Bob Barker.
