10 Wrestlers You Didn't Know Had a Bad Reputation

It is usually very easy to tell which wrestler has a bad reputation.

Here's a special note: The wrestler posts cryptic things on Twitter, often in the form of a GIF or an inspirational quote. Weeks after pissing the hell off the locker room, he says something along the lines of, “A clear conscience is a good pillow.”

After one ugly incident too many, this wrestler's cage match record lists a series of WWE or TNA matches five pages ago and then, on the most recent – if they're still going – a win over a nobody for Super Limitless Xtreme Wrestling of McMullen, Alabama.

You know the type. Austin Aries. EC3. Tessa Blanchard.

These are, among other things, professional wrestling's biggest troublemakers: people who have talked themselves out of mainstream appearances forever. These names dominate this discussion whenever it comes up.

It's hard to beat Austin Aries – imagine landing your final big blow at Zombie Impact and failing to finish the fight – but certain wrestlers you might not expect have a certain reputation.

Others do, but that spoils the enjoyment…

(It should be noted that the severity of these repetitions can vary considerably).

Sure, the Steiner Brothers have earned a bad reputation, but they were also great in the ring in their heyday, Scott has become a lovable meme figure thanks to his insane TNA run, and in general, time and nostalgia darken things.

Besides, there is a good way to be evil.

A sadist without any charisma like Bill DeMott, who never achieved anything and beats up an apprentice: regrettable and indefensible.

Scott Steiner, a loner with a funny way of speaking who can give someone hell: captivating, something that reinforces his “we can't do that again” aura.

They were great because of their deadpan irony and all that, but…

Scott Steiner was a madman who terrorized the WCW locker room and created an unsafe work environment. Rick Steiner was, by many accounts – including Chris Jericho's – a bully. A sadistic bully. He seemed to enjoy taking liberties with his opponents during the Nitro era, when he experienced the death rattle.

Rick treated Gisele disgustingly at WrestleCon last year, but celebrated Bron Breakker's title win at SummerSlam on WWE's official social media channels this year. Now he's just a loving, supportive father.
