Airport fire in Trabuco Canyon leads to further road closures – NBC Los Angeles

As the airport fire exploded in size on Monday, forcing evacuations in the Trabuco Canyon area, more than 1,000 firefighters were expected to work through the night to extinguish the wildfire.

The airport fire, reported around 1:15 p.m. on Trabuco Creek Road near a remote-controlled airport, grew from a sweltering 2.8 acres to over 800 acres in just a few hours.

The latest fire was moving toward the site of the Holy Fire, which burned more than 9,400 hectares of land in 2018, officials said.

Evacuation orders and warnings were in effect for several communities in Trabuco Canyon on Monday.

Evacuation orders, warnings

In addition to the mandatory evacuation order for residents of Robinson Ranch and Trabuco Highlands, authorities said people under evacuation warnings should prepare to leave their homes.

“Don't wait for a mandatory evacuation order. If you are under an involuntary evacuation order, know that it is not given lightly. Now is the time to get going,” Orange County Supervisor Don Wagner said during a news conference with fire officials.

The map of the districts for which evacuation orders and warnings apply can be found here.
