Demi Moore loves being a grandmother

When Demi Moore, 61, stopped by Studio 1A to chat with TODAY's Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb about her new film, “The Substance,” she shared how she's embracing this new chapter.

“For me, this is the most exciting time of my life,” she said.

“That sounds so good right now,” said Hoda, who just turned 60.

“My kids are grown. I have the most independence and autonomy to really redefine where I want to go,” Moore replied. “I don't know what that looks like or where it is, but I'm just happy to live in it.”

Moore, who has spent decades in front of the camera, now has a nice little audience: her granddaughter Louetta Isley Thomas Willis.

“Lou” was born in April 2023 to Rumer Willis, Moore’s eldest daughter with her ex-husband Bruce Willis and her boyfriend Derek Richard Thomas.

When Rumer visited TODAY earlier this year, she told Hoda that seeing her parents with their daughter “brings back all those childhood memories, because being grandparents is, in my opinion, the best thing they have. All the love and joy without the responsibility.”

Motherhood has made Rumer appreciate Moore more, she said.

“I think we can be so hard on our mothers sometimes, especially girls,” she said. “I had this moment at the very beginning when I think I even went home to my mom and cried a little bit because I was like, 'Now I get it.' The love that I feel for her is the same love that she felt for me, and I just felt this deep love and appreciation.”

Moore, in turn, raved about Rumer and Lou to Savannah and Hoda.

“I love it,” Moore said. “I'm 'Yaya.' And she's the cutest. Rumer just sent me a photo of her with spaghetti on her head.”

“That’s exactly right!” said Hoda, laughing.
