What is Pioneertown and can you visit it?

Sell ​​sunset is no stranger to fun, chaotic girls' trips packaged as a “business trip,” and in Season 8 the out-of-office card was laid out for a trip to Pioneertown. But what exactly is this Wild West town owned by newbie Alanna Gold? And can you actually visit it?

Sell ​​sunset is one of the most popular reality shows on Netflix and follows the lives and businesses of the agents at the Oppenheim Group, a real estate agency based in Los Angeles. New to the agency and the show this year is Alanna Gold, who, along with her husband, owns a large portion of Pioneertown, an old movie set that now functions as a town.

What is Pioneertown?

Pioneertown is a former 1946 film set located in the Morongo Basin region of the High Desert in San Bernardino County, California. The set was created as a replica of an 1880s Wild West-style town and was designed so that residents could live and work in one location and make films.

It still serves as a film set and over 200 productions have been filmed there. It is now also open as a tourist attraction and serves as a wedding venue.

Does Pioneertown belong to Alanna?

While Sell ​​sunset In season 8, the group ventures into the town that belongs to Alanna. She hasn't yet revealed the price of the town, but she did reveal that it isn't entirely hers, but that she and her husband own a large portion.

In conversation with PeopleAlanna said, “When we learned in 2020 that a large portion of Pioneertown was for sale, we saw it as an incredible opportunity to not only strengthen our ties to the community, but also preserve a piece of history. Together with our remarkable partner David Corso, we founded Pioneertown Land Management with the mission of restoring Pioneertown's original vision and purpose. We are fortunate to have the support of investor Gary Friedman, who shares our passion for this project.”

So why the love for Pioneertown? Well, as Alanna mentions on the show, it was the place where she and her husband Adam Gold had their first date and later got married there in 2022.

Can you visit Pioneertown?

Planning a trip out west? Then you'll be happy to know that you can plan a visit to Pioneertown, as it's open 365 days a year. It's close to Joshua Tree and Palm Springs, so it would be an ideal stop on a larger west coast trip.

You have the option of staying in town. You can either pitch a tent or bring an RV to the Pioneertown Corrals. You can also rent a room at the Pioneertown Motel, where rates start at $175 (£133) per night. Or stay at Rimrock Ranch, where rooms are available for two nights or more for $292 (£223).

There is plenty to explore in the city and also a number of places to eat. Some areas of the city are car-free and specifically marked as “Hooves and Feet Only”.

Oh, and if you're a big fan of the Western vibe, you can actually get married in the city. Say “Yeehaw!”
