Jordan Mason came on during Monday Night Football between the New York Jets and the San Francisco 49ers. Since Christian McCaffrey was out before kickoff due to ankle/Achilles tendon problems, Mason not only stepped in but shone in the 49ers' backfield.

Mason powered the 49ers' offense, rushing for a career-high 147 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries. The Georgia Tech product tore apart the Jets' defense with a series of powerful runs through New York's front seven.

After the game, Fred Warner was asked about Mason. The 49ers' defensive captain was not surprised by the undrafted running back's performance on Monday against the Jets.

I know it sounds silly, but that's really what I expect from him. I love that he worked out here during the offseason – he chose to work out here with me and some of the other linebackers, Flan and Curtis. We compete here. Even during the offseason, I saw him with a different mindset that he was going to be ready for his big moment when it came. Throughout training camp, of course, he took a lot of reps, even when Christian wasn't there. Even though I'm not throwing him to the ground, I could feel his physicality and see it throughout the preseason. He was ready for his big moment. I'm so happy for him.

Regardless of when McCaffrey will next be available, Mason has deservedly earned a role in Shanahan's offense. If McCaffrey can't return by Sunday, Mason will likely be busy again in Week 2 against the Minnesota Vikings.
