Tory Lanez's recording devices confiscated during raid on his cell

Authorities recently removed the recording device from Tory Lanez’s prison cell.

Caesar McDowell, Tory's assistant attorney, told TMZ Hip Hop that his client's recording devices were confiscated by prison guards during a raid. McDowell was informed that inmates at the California Correctional Institution are “strictly prohibited” from possessing recording devices for a variety of reasons.

It is not yet known whether a penalty will be imposed due to the rule violation.

Before the release of “Wish I Never Met You”, the first song of the Prison tapes series, a recorded call was posted on his Instagram in which Lanez said that after much trial and error, he and his sound engineer had found a way to put together music with reasonable sound quality.

“After about 20 to 30 blunders and mistakes, my sound engineer and I finally figured out how to record music over the prison phone and keep the quality as professional as it was on the street,” he said. “It's over. I cracked the damn code, man. That means not even these prison walls can stop me from putting out new music. It's crazy!”

Tory was sentenced to ten years in prison for his involvement in the shooting death of Megan Thee Stallion in 2020. In December 2022, he was found guilty on three counts, including assault with a semi-automatic firearm, possession of a concealed and loaded firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

A judge denied Lanez's request for release while his legal team worked on an appeal.
